Created and operated in 2016 by Chef James Herrera, student of a Le Cordon Bleu program in Texas, Julianna’s Restaurant serves not only a modern twist on classic cuisine but great hospitality, featuring reinvented American classics such as artisan pizza, salads, soup, sandwiches and a great selection of wine and beer.
The venue is a hidden gem located in Castroville, TX just a few miles away from San Antonio, loved by guests in search of a great meal or a place to socialize over cocktails while sharing new experiences.
With a contemporary small-plates menu, the restaurant additionally brings a beautiful and scenic view of the Alsatian Golf Course, making this space the perfect place for special occasions, private events, and weddings with a menu that is customized to fit every need and occasion.

For me, food is life. It is only third to my faith and my family. I have always wanted to create with food. I am drawn to it and the longer I’m in the business, the more I love it.
I remember being fascinated as young man watching my mother cook. It was a time when cooking was becoming popular with the emergence of the Food Network and television cooking shows. I didn’t like to do chores, as most kids don’t, but my parents agreed to pay me five dollars for every meal that I cooked for them. Getting paid to do what I already loved was the catalyst to my career.
I studied at the Texas Culinary Academy, a Le Cordon Bleu program. There I learned the proper steps to creating beautiful food. I then went to work at Huisache Grill in New Braunfels as a part of an externship experience. I worked my way up to the Executive Chef position in a few years and met my future wife. I then moved to Medina County and began working as a private chef for a couple of upscale exotic game ranches.
With the love and support of my family, I now have the opportunity to live out my dream by owning and operating my own restaurant. I love to watch the faces of the people that I have the privilege to serve. There is nothing better than the enjoyment on their faces when they are eating delicious food.
